Chapter 10

Issabol was in one of her moods. Several soldiers had arrived from the Keep to help relocate her workshops to the new hall within the same world as the war room. Inside, she’d be able to work on her creations while allowing time within Fairie to move at a snail’s pace.

She had much to do, and time was, for once, not on her side. Claire’s insane plans had asked much of her skill and it had become clear that the complex tasks would need her to do more work than she could attend to in such a brief period.

Now soldiers carefully moved the tables and benches into her new workspace. When finished, she’d change out the portals to rearrange the rooms in her home.

The Shaper’s Guild had been pulled into this world of speeding time to build the larger structure. Despite being instructed that time would stretch there, they were all unsettled by the experience. They finished a long day of shaping stone and moving earth, only to come home and find they’d been gone only a half hour or so.

Now soldiers had to carefully time the movement of items into the new workshop. One could move in, spend a few minutes arranging, then run into the man who was walking in right behind him.

Issabol snapped and shouted at the burly men, her child’s voice in contrast with the authority of her words. They all tolerated the strange girl because they were instructed to respect her as if she were the queen herself.

The new workshop was almost three times as large to accommodate the additional people utilizing the space. Claire was coming along well in honing her Transmutation. She even incorporated Entropy to make day-long processes take seconds.

One corner was also set up for Joobel. Sewing supplies and materials sat next to her large staging table and the desk where she drafted designs. At first, Issabol found the company of the gnome to be a bit much. No one could dislike the woman, but she was tiresome in large doses. Her upbeat, happy manner could grate on those who couldn’t keep up.

After they had worked together a few times, Issabol saw the gnome’s skill and began to respect her more. The recent work on the flight helmets had actually been enjoyable.

She’d grown accustomed to being alone for the most part, but knew Joobel wouldn’t age quickly. That friendship could last for centuries thanks to her Naming. Most people were hardly worth getting to know, as they would be gone as soon as Issabol got comfortable around them. Maybe Joobel could be different.

It only took a couple of hours to move the contents of her workspace to their new home, but she hadn’t made a change this significant in well over a thousand years. Things felt odd. It took her the rest of the day to move the venting portals and doorways into the usual spots within her altered home. There were now over a dozen locations built into the halls and rooms of her house.
